A visit to a museum in Taiwan was supposed to be enjoyable for a 12 year old boy and his parents. Instead it turned out to be a nightmare when the kid tripped over a barrier chain and accidentally punched a hole in a painting.
This wasnt just any old painting. Its a 350 year old Paolo Porpora painting worth an estimated $1.5 million USD.
This is what Wikipedia says about Paolo Porpora.
Paolo Porpora (16171673) was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque, who was active mainly in Naples and specialized in floral still lifes. He is documented as a pupil of Giacomo Recco, the father of Giuseppe Recco, and said to have worked under Aniello Falcone. He joined the Roman Accademia di San Luca from 1656 to 1658. He appears to have been influenced in Rome by Netherlandish still-life painters. Among his pupils were Giovan Battista Ruoppolo and the Neapolitan Onofrio Loth(died 1717).
Organizers of the display say they will not make the family pay for the damage. Were guessing that family is extremely grateful on that one!
